Meeting Summary, September 5, 2019

Attending: Clark, Hultgren, Weinland, Waldburger, Hankins

The meeting was begun at 6:38 pm in the Nash Zimmer Transportation Center. The meeting summary for the July 17, 2019 meeting was circulated and reviewed.

Hultgren gave a brief Treasurer’s report indicating that since the purchase of logo water bottles there was now about $1265 in the checking account with $1000 reserved for the PE teacher training grant from the Mansfield Lions.

Hultgren circulated a list of 10 bicycle trivia questions for use in Bike Mansfield booth at the upcoming Town Festival on Sept 21st. It was generally agreed these were OK, and to substitute a question on the annual cost of the showers and lockers at the Transportation Center. Two $25 gift certificates (to Storrs Center Cycle and Pedal Power) will be given to people in a drawing at 5:45 pm for those who placed their trivia answer ballots (with name a phone#) in the box at the booth. The Bike Mansfield water bottles (for give-aways at the booth, were passed around.

Hultgren said that the booth schedule was from 2pm to 6pm this year and that the festival was going to be on a Saturday. He welcomed any members who will stop in to take a shift at the table.

Clark updated members on the UConn BFU working group’s efforts. She said the Power Point presentation to the UConn Transportation Board was all set and she would present it at 1:30 on Sept 9th in a conference room in the Facilities Operations Building. She said she would be emphasizing bike (and pedestrian) safety, healthy lifestyle choices, the ongoing efforts of the Recreation Department, and some of the immediate, low cost improvements that UConn could make in the near future.

A follow-up mapping session for the Mansfield routes and points of interest map was needed. Possible dates include October 15, 16, 17, 21 or 22. Hultgren will send out an email asking for confirmation of people’s availability and where the session will take place.

Hultgren said he hadn’t met yet with the Mansfield School Administrators yet to discuss the pending PE teacher training grant. He and Waldburger will schedule such a meeting this fall.

Hultgren reported that the new bike parking symbols were now up on the Town Square railings, and that he would be counting bikes and pedestrians at the Route 195/Bolton Rd and 195/275 intersections from 4 to 6 pm on September 11th and 12th, and any assistance would be welcome.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:32 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for the first Thursday in October (3rd).
