Meeting Summary, June 1, 2017

Attending: Palmer, Gosselin, Hultgren, O’Keefe, Clark, Van Zelm, Ferron, Mike & Cheryl Radzvilowicz

The meeting was begun at 6:32 pm in the Nash Zimmer Transportation Center.

The meeting notes from the May 4th meeting were approved on a motion by Palmer/Gosselin.

Hultgren reported that there were now 24 individual paying members and 4 business members in Bike Mansfield, and that there was currently $459.86 in the checking account. He said that the individual membership windshield stickers were almost gone, and he would order more. O’Keefe took several of the larger business window stickers for soliciting business/organizational memberships to Bike Mansfield.

A Bike Mansfield table set-up at the Mansfield Community Center was discussed for the June 17th Tour de Mansfield. Hultgren said he would get there early with a Table and the banner. Palmer will send him the email sign-up sheet and the membership sign-up forms. The Radzvilowiczs said they can help staff the table, which is planned to be set up from approximately 7:30 am to 11:00 am.

Flyers for the July 13th Adventure Cycling workshop that were prepared by Gosselin were passed out for people to use in publicizing this summer workshop. The deadline for having a fall workshop listed in the MCC course/activity brochure is June 12th, and discussions about possible workshops took place. Hultgren will check with Aaron Paterson to see if he would do another bike maintenance class this fall. Palmer will check on a venue for showing another bicycle-themed movie which would be publicized outside of the MCC brochure, so the June 12th deadline would not apply.

Hultgren reminded everyone that the TCC Century was scheduled for July 29th and since half of the proceeds are being donated to Bike Mansfield members should plan to participate.

After discussion it was agreed to hold another photo contest with the top ten submittals displayed (for popular voting) in the Bike Mansfield booth at the Town Square Festival on September 17th. Hultgren will edit the contest rules for 2017 and Palmer will set it up on the web and Facebook pages. Ideas for displaying the photos creatively were developed. A second activity involving demonstrations or even contests on a bike trainer is still possible if enough room is available behind the booth.

Several dates to work on the Mansfield Bicycle Friendly Application were set up this summer: June 12th (at Todd O’Keefe’s residence), June 13th (TBD), June 20th in the Town Hall Conference Room C and July 20th in the Town Hall Conference Room B. The June 12th and 13th worksessions will begin at 7:00 PM, the 20th worksessions at 7:30 PM. The deadline for the application to the League of American Bicyclists is in early August.

Hultgren said while he had discussed the status of the Town’s mountain bike policy on Town lands with John Hankins, he had not heard yet from the Town staffers who need to review (and contribute to) the draft Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan for Mansfield. He will follow up this month.

Van Zelm presented proposed changes to the Town’s “Commuter Club” membership and fee schedule for the use of the Transportation Center’s showers, clothes lockers and bike lockers. The proposal calls for significant reductions in the fees as well as making them paid annually instead of quarterly. After some questions and discussion, the proposal was enthusiastically endorsed by the group on a motion by Gosselin/O’Keefe.

The need for more youth and family-related bicycle activities was discussed. No decisions were made, but this topic will be on the next few meeting agendas.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for July 6, 2017 (1st Thurs).
