Meeting Summary February 19, 2026

Attending: Hultgren, Waldburger, Clark, England and Palmer

The meeting began at 7:07 pm in the lobby of the Transportation Center in Downtown Storrs.

Several dates were discussed to continue one or more 2-part CWA pilot training sessions (part 1 – intro and trishaw basics; part 2- route training). These dates were: mornings on Sat March 21st, Sat April 4th & Sat April 19th. England, Waldburger, Clark and Hultgren were available on some of or all of these dates. Hultgren will poll them as well as Thorne, Baxter & Cole to firm up trainer availability, and then invite potential pilots that have expressed interest (or started) being trained to these sessions. Clark also spoke of Michelle Puzzo’s upcoming CWA activities in Manchester and coordinating with other Chapters (like Stonington and Mansfield), and said she would follow up with her.

The dates for the 2026 4th grade bike education program were discussed, and Hultgren said he thought the training would last a day longer due to the additional 6th group of students this year. Note: The latest email from the PE teacher, Josh T., said the program will run 6 days with 2 additional rain days – May 26 to June 2nd with rain dates spilling over to June 3rd and June 4th if necessary.

Hultgren said that the CT Safe Roads to School (SRTS) state coordinator said that they could possibly provide assistance in the bike ed teaching of the Mansfield students. Since Cecile Serrazo coordinated the volunteers in the past 2 years, Hultgren will check with her to see if she can do it this year and put her in touch with the SRTS contact. The bike maintenance day is still on for the morning of Sat April 18th.

Upcoming tabling and outreach events in 2026 were briefly discussed, including UConn’s Spring Fling Day (on Fairfield Road), the Celebrate Mansfield Festival, the Lions Club barbeque, and other events if held again this year. Hultgren said that he attended a tabling webinar and thought a more active involvement of table “visitors” could be implemented this year. England suggested the actual purpose of the tabling/outreach should be defined to help in shaping such activities.

2026 membership efforts were reviewed. England and Hultgren agreed to begin a canvass of the recent business members, starting in late March, and will work together to set up some tentative dates. Renewal emails to regular members need to go out soon. Palmer has drafted such an email and will send it to Hultgren. It was also suggested that more emails and social media posts would help build interest as well as membership.

Palmer reported that he had laid out a section for the Bike Mansfield website about the CWA program that can take viewers’ interest in CWA and their contact information. It was agreed that the email/contact info should be sent to Clark, England and Hultgren who will then follow up.
