CT/USA bike updates

Here are some “big picture” news bits:

  1. BikeWalkCT is having a 2-day summit/workshop in Wethersfield on Thursday and Friday April 23rd and 24th. The first day (Thurs) is a workshop of design practitioners; the second day is a meeting for everyone interested in furthering biking and walking in CT and will feature David Geller, the Portland, Oregon bike coordinator, as the keynote speaker. We hope to send a Bike Mansfield delegation. See www.BikeWalkCT.org for registration details.
  2. A “bike bill” (SB502) is working its way through the CT Legislature. This week it was supposed to be approved by the Transportation Committee (although there were still some details to be worked out with the DOT). No doubt it will need some grass roots support in addition to the support being given by BikeWalkCT. You can follow the progress of this bill on the www.bikewalkct.org website.
  3. BikeMansfield will be joining People for Bikes after our April 1st regular meeting. Check out their website at www.peopleforbikes.org for their message and policies. You can also join as an individual. They are an important national advocacy group for bettering every bike ride.
