Bike Mansfield, Meeting Summary April 10, 2025

The meeting began shortly after 7 pm in the lobby of the Transportation Center in Downtown Storrs.

Preparations for the upcoming 4^th grade education program at the Mansfield Elementary School were discussed. Hultgren said the storage trailer needed to be organized and the bicycles maintained/adjusted for the program which will begin again the week after Memorial Day. Cerazo said she would send a draft volunteer recruitment letter to meeting attendees and then have it sent out to the Bike Mansfield email list with a deadline of May 14^th to sign up. Vetting requirements will be done via the school when the volunteers are signed up. (Note: since this meeting, the school has revised the program schedule to now be Tuesday May 27 through Tuesday June 3, assuming one rain day in the mix.)

The CWA chapter roll-out was discussed. As soon as the gearing changes are complete the trishaw will be tested on the proposed routes near the Senior Center, and a storage cart/workbench and tools will be set up in the storage garage on Wrights Way. Hultgren and Thorne will make a video for pilot training, and the pilot manual has to be finalized. Coordinators have to be chosen for the facilities to be served and then they have to be introduced to and tutored in using the scheduling program (Book2Go). Finally, a few pilots need to be recruited and trained so that the first rides can scheduled.

Hultgren said he has yet to meet with Mike Stankov again to firm up the trail use monitoring needed for the drafting of a proposed mountain bike policy on Town parks and preserves.

With O’Keefe due back in the area soon, Hultgren said he would begin the 2025 membership visits as soon as the weather warms up.

Bike Mansfield will have a table at the Town’s Earth Day event at the Community Center on the morning of April 20^th, Clark and Thorne said they could help staff the table.
