This is our 4-part Fall series of workshops about bicycles and bicycling at the Mansfield Community Center Community Room. All sessions will be in the Community Room of the Mansfield Community Center.

Workshop 1: October 7, 2015, 7:00-8:30 pm. Community Room
Ergonomics, Strength and Nutrition for Cycling

Presenters: David Hoyle, Avid cyclist and National Director of Work Strategies for Select Medical Corporation, Doctor of Physical Therapy with an MA in Exercise Sciences and BA in Physical Therapy. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist and Certified Manual Therapist.  Amber Pierce, Professional Road Cyclist for Pepper Palace Pro Cycling and US National Team; founder of Network For Advancing Athletes; BA and MSc from Stanford University.

Workshop 2: (410080-B) October 14, 2015, 7:00-8:30 pm. Community Room
Bicycle Maintenance and Preparation for Touring

Presenter: Aaron Paterson, founder of Storrs Center Cycle with assistance from his team of bicycle mechanics.
This workshop will cover what all cyclists should know about maintaining and adjusting their bicycles before, during and after a ride as well as what repairs may have to be made on longer rides and tours.

Workshop 3: October 21, 2015, 7:00-8:30 pm. Community Room
Bicycle Racing in CT and Beyond

Presenters:   John Harris, of the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP) which promotes cycling for youth and young adults to improve the lives of youth and young adults through the sport of cycling. John is an aspiring professional cyclist from Ledyard CT working with the CCAP as an Outreach Associate and mentor. John has 7 years of race experience, winning the Connecticut State Championships several times, the New York State Championships, and victories in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This workshop is being co-sponsored by the UConn Cycling Club, and will provide information about bicycle racing, its benefits and how to get involved.

Workshop 4: October 28, 2015, 7:00-8:30 pm. Community Room
Essential Bike Skills and Safety

Presenters: David Waldburger, President of the Thread City Cyclers and League of American Bicyclists Certified instructor. Amber Pierce, Professional Road Cyclist for Pepper Palace Pro Cycling and US National Team; founder of Network For Advancing Athletes; BA and MSc from Stanford University.

This workshop will cover riding safely in traffic from the League’s Smart Cycling program as well as specific skills like braking, cornering, descending, riding with one hand (e.g. to signal turns without coming off your line), etc. Each attendee will be given a copy of the League’s Smart Cycling booklet. Other local League instructors and experienced cyclists will assist in presenting this workshop.
